Below is a link to a book I put together and self-published through Amazon. It is a collection of writings and drawings from my husband's Uncle Barney to him when he was in elementary school. Each time a letter arrived, it also arrived with an accompanying Endangered Species stuffed animal. The animals have been lost over time and moves, but the letters (some of them anyway) remained. It also includes some short stories Barney had written in High School that he compiled for my husband's sister, along with the drawings.
Uncle Barney was,
for the most part, a recluse. He served in the military but once he got
out, he was not the same. He studied at Lake City Community College in
Lake City, Florida (what is now called Florida Gateway College) and went on to
become a Park Ranger. He was stationed in many interesting places, which
you will hear tell of in the stories he wrote to his nephew. He grew up
near Destin, FL and had his run on the beaches and the bay. He, his
sister, and his cousins spent many a day sailing on his own small sailboat.
His family tell of his longing for "Old Florida" and since that was disappearing
daily, he left and moved to Washington state.
